   An expression used to indicate the speaker's strong guess about the preceding statement and add other relevant content.

   앞에 오는 말에 대하여 말하는 사람의 강한 추측을 나타내면서 그와 관련되는 내용을 이어 말할 때 쓰는 표현.

   ※ 'ㄹ'을 제외한 받침 있는 동사와 형용사 또는 '-었-' 뒤에 붙여 쓰고, 문장을 끝맺을 때 쓰기도 한다.

• 할 일이 많을 텐데 벌써 퇴근하려고?

  You must have a lot of work to do -- are you really leaving already?

• 먼 길 오시느라 힘드셨을 텐데 여기 좀 앉아서 쉬세요.

  You must be tired from the long trip -- please sit down and rest here.

• 나는 야근을 해서 늦을 텐데 너희들끼리 먼저 저녁을 먹는 게 어때?

  I'll probably be late because of overtime, so why don't you all eat dinner first?

• 이번 성적을 부모님께 보여 드리면 야단맞을 텐데 어떻게 하지? 야단을 맞더라도 빨리 보여 드리는 게 나아.

  If I show my parents this report card, I'll probably get scolded -- what should I do? Even if you get scolded, it's better to show them soon.

• 집에 어머니가 계실 텐데 왜 전화를 안 받지?

  Mom should be home -- why isn't she answering the phone?

• 지금까지 아무것도 못 먹어서 배가 많이 고플 텐데 많이 먹어.

  You haven't eaten anything until now, so you must be starving -- eat a lot.
