-기를 기다리다

wait for ~ to happen

Attaches to a verb stem with the noun-forming -기 to state that someone is waiting for a particular event or action to occur; formal or written but also used in speech.

Examples

  • 사람들은 신호등이 바뀌기를 기다렸다.

    People waited for the traffic light to change.

  • 저는 그 소식이 전해지기를 애타게 기다리고 있어요.

    I'm anxiously waiting for that news to be delivered.

  • 관객들은 공연이 시작되기를 조용히 기다렸다.

    The audience quietly waited for the performance to begin.
