   An expression used to indicate that the time being described takes places after the completion of a certain work or process mentioned in the preceding statement.

   앞에 오는 말이 가리키는 일이나 과정이 끝난 뒤임을 나타내는 표현.

   ※ ‘ㄹ’을 제외한 받침 있는 동사 뒤에 붙여 쓴다.

Examples

• 승규는 대학을 졸업한 다음에 군대에 갔다.

  Seunggyu went into the military after graduating from college.

• 전자 제품을 살 때에는 가격과 성능을 꼼꼼히 비교해 본 다음에 사야 한다.

  When buying electronics, you should carefully compare prices and performance before buying.

• 지수는 여행을 갈 때 여권부터 챙긴 다음에 옷이나 그 외에 필요한 것들을 챙긴다.

  When Jisu goes on a trip, she packs her passport first, then her clothes and other necessities.

• 유민이 소식 들었어? 곧 유학을 간대. 그래? 석사 과정을 마친 다음에 바로 유학을 갈 건가 보네.

  Did you hear about Yumin? She's going to study abroad soon. Really? I guess she's going right after finishing her master's degree.

• 과일과 야채는 흐르는 물에 깨끗이 씻은 다음에 먹어야 한다.

  Fruits and vegetables should be washed clean under running water before eating.

• 외국어를 공부할 때는 발음을 잘 들은 다음에 따라 하는 것이 중요하다.

  When studying a foreign language, it's important to listen carefully to the pronunciation before repeating it.
