Meanings

   An expression used to indicate a strong will for the act mentioned in the preceding statement, or to guess that doing the act may be necessary.

   앞말이 나타내는 행동에 대한 강한 의지를 나타내거나 그 행동을 할 필요가 있음을 완곡하게 말할 때 쓰는 표현.

Examples

• 여기에서 좀 쉬어 가야겠다.

  I think I'll rest here for a bit before going on.

• 내일 일찍 일어나야 되니 이만 자야겠다.

  I have to get up early tomorrow, so I'd better go to sleep now.

• 나를 도와준 사람들을 생각하며 항상 감사하게 살아야겠다.

  I should live with gratitude, always thinking of the people who helped me.

• 건강해 보였던 김 부장이 암이라면서요? 응. 나도 자만하지 말고 매년 건강 검진을 받아 봐야겠어.

  I heard Manager Kim, who seemed so healthy, has cancer? Yeah. I shouldn't be overconfident either -- I really should get a health checkup every year.

• 올해는 정말 담배를 끊어야겠다.

  I really have to quit smoking this year.

• 식구가 늘어나니 집은 지금보다 넓어야겠군요.

  Now that the family is growing, the house will need to be bigger than it is now.
