   A connective ending used when the speaker implies in advance that he/she will confess his/her thoughts or hopes, etc., in the following statement.

   말하는 사람이 뒤에 오는 말로 자신의 생각이나 바람 등을 고백한다는 것을 미리 나타내는 연결 어미.

   ※ 일부 동사 뒤에 붙여 쓴다.

Examples

• 신이시여, 바라건대 저에게 용기를 주소서.

  O God, I pray that You grant me courage.

• 제가 장담하건대 신제품은 엄청난 인기를 얻을 것입니다.

  I can assure you, the new product will be tremendously popular.

• 승규의 성품으로 미루어 짐작하건대 부모의 성품 역시 훌륭할 것이다.

  Judging from Seunggyu's character, I would guess his parents' character is excellent too.

• 지금 사퇴를 하는 건 경솔하다는 비판이 있는데 어떻게 생각하십니까?

  There's criticism that resigning now would be rash — what do you think?

• 맹세하건대 저는 신중하게 판단하고 결정한 겁니다.

  I swear, I judged and decided this carefully.

• 신이시여, 바라건대 저에게 용기를 주소서.

  O God, I pray that You grant me courage.
