-었으면 하다

wish that ~

Similar to -었으면 좋겠다 but slightly more literary, attaches to a verb or adjective stem with -었- to express a wish; common in writing and more formal spoken requests.

Examples

  • 이 문제에 대해 좀 더 진지하게 고민해 주셨으면 합니다.

    I wish you would think about this issue more seriously.

  • 다음 회의는 오전에 열렸으면 한다.

    I wish the next meeting could be held in the morning.

  • 모두가 서로를 배려했으면 한다.

    I wish everyone would be considerate of each other.
